A 64-year-old Edwardsburg woman was killed Thursday morning while bicycling when she was in a crash with a car.
Police were called just before 9:30 a.m. after the crash occurred near U.S. 12 and Lane Road.Mimi Piane retired after 24 years as the librarian and a student advisory leader at The Stanley Clark School in South Bend.
In a 5 p.m. Thursday posting on the Stanley Clark School Facebook page, Piane was credited with building the school library to more than 20,000 volumes. "(Piane) fostered the love of learning and reading in generations of Stanley Clark students," the post said. " ... Mrs. Piane touched many lives through her warmth, kindness and generous spirit."
She is survived by her husband, Joe Piane, who retired as track and cross country coach at the University of Notre Dame in 2014, and their son, Nick.Police accident reconstructionists are investigating, and the Ontwa Township Edwardsburg Police Department asks anyone with information surrounding the circumstances of the crash to call (269) 663-8444.
