Oakland, CA: Tanker truck crashed during a rainy morning commute Thursday on September 25, 2014
A tanker truck crashed during a rainy morning commute Thursday, spilling fluid onto part of the freeway and forcing the California Highway Patrol to issue a severe traffic alert.
The two right lanes on southbound Interstate 880 were closed at the I-980 interchange, just north of the Broadway exit, CHP Officer Kevin Bartlett said.
The tanker truck collided with another car just before 4:45 a.m. They were expected to remained closed for several hours.
Only minor injuries were reported from the wreck, but the CHP did not have specifics.
The CHP said the tanker was carrying a wax material, but a hazardous materials team was not required to clean it up.
Heavy rain on Thursday morning caused the Broadway offramp from the freeway to flood, which added to the difficulties, Bartlett said.
