Morganton, NC : Construction Worker Killed, Two Hurt In Crash On I-40 near Morganton Friday morning on September 19, 2014

A fatal crash along Interstate 40 near Morganton shut down the westbound lanes Friday for several hours.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation said the crash happened at mile marker 105 at a construction zone where workers were resurfacing the road.
Burke County Emergency Services said they got the first call about the wreck at 2:25 a.m. and three people were sent to the hospital.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol said a car hit three pedestrians, killing one.
Sergeant Michael Baker identified the person who died as 43-year-old Flavio Jaimes, of Mount Gilead, NC.
Baker said the other two people suffered no life-threatening injuries.
According to Baker, the construction zone was clearly marked and all of the workers struck were wearing reflective vests.
He said the driver was not impaired and there was no evidence of speed.
Drivers were being detoured off of the interstate at exit 105, taking a right onto NC-18 then a left to re-access I-40.
