Claremont, NC : Jacksonville Transit bus involved in traffic collision at Claremont on April 7th, 2016
Claremont, North Carolina
No one was injured in a crash involving a Jacksonville Transit bus on Thursday.
“Both vehicles were traveling westbound of N.C. 24 in the outside travel lane,” said Lt. Sean Magill with the Jacksonville Police Department.
After coming to a stop for railroad tracks, a Jacksonville Transit bus driven by Karen Whitcomb, 47, of Richlands was rear-ended by Craig Culpepper, 50, of Jacksonville at about 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, Magill said.
Culpepper, driving a Ford SUV, “failed to reduce speed,” Magill said. There were damages to both vehicles, about $8,000 estimated for the SUV and $5,000 estimated for the transit bus. Culpepper’s vehicle was towed from the scene.
Magill said the bus had four passengers at the time, but the passengers and the drivers were not injured.
There were no charges. Magill said from the report it appeared officers decided not to charge Culpepper because it looked as if he “got the worse end of the deal.”
