Flagstaff, AZ : Teen dies in I-17 crash near Munds Park on Saturday, July 9, 2016
A teenage girl died in a crash on Interstate 17 near Munds Park over the weekend.
According to information from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a Chevrolet pickup truck heading southbound at I-17 drifted off the road near milepost 315, located about 7 miles south of Munds Park, at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday. The driver overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle. It rolled across the median before coming to a stop in the northbound lanes of traffic.
A 16-year-old girl who was not wearing a seatbelt was ejected from the pickup truck during the crash. She died at the scene from her injuries. DPS has not released her name.
The 44-year-old driver from Orem, Utah, and an 11-year-old female passenger were transported to Flagstaff Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. A 5-year-old girl was transported to Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
This collision is under investigation. Driver impairment has not been ruled out.
