Novato,CA : Driver crashes into Novato home on August, Wednesday 30th 2017

Aug. 30--A 66-year-old woman crashed a Tesla SUV into her son and daughter-in-law's Novato home on Tuesday, authorities said.

The woman, who was not identified, was attempting to maneuver the Model X from the driveway when the incident occurred, officials said. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were called at 10:40 a.m. to the home at the 20 block of Woodbridge Way in the Hamilton neighborhood.

The woman, who was visiting from Huntington, New York, was unfamiliar with her daughter-in-law's SUV, said Novato fire Capt. Jeff Davis.

"She backed up into the street, put it into forward gear, hit the accelerator, and it reacted a lot quicker than anticipated," he said. "She drove it through the front window of the house."

The vehicle smashed into the home's front room, pushing through furniture before coming to rest along the room's back wall, Davis said. The SUV sustained moderate damage, according to Novato police. A total property damage estimate was not known.

The driver did not show any signs of impairment, authorities said.

Davis said the home was red-tagged by the city due to structural damage and electrical issues. The residents planned to stay at a hotel, he said.
