Tallahassee, FL : A Lake Charles man died of injuries he sustained in a car crash on I-10 on Saturday, September 2, 2017
A Lake Charles man died of injuries he sustained in a car crash on I-10 over the Bonnet Carre Spillway Friday morning, State Police said.
The crash involved two vehicles and occurred around 10:20 a.m. on westbound I-10 in St. Charles Parish. One of the drivers, Paul J. Dellafosse, 34, of Lake Charles, was transported to University Medical Center where he later died, State Police said in a news release Saturday (Sept. 2).
State Police said the preliminary investigation shows that Dellafosse was driving a 2002 Honda Accord at a high rate of speed when the vehicle struck the left curb and then entered the right lane, where it struck a 2010 Ford Focus driven by a Florida man.
Both vehicles hit the right guardrail, and the Honda flipped onto its roof, State Police said.
Dellafosse and a passenger were both wearing seat belts. The passenger was not injured. Dellafosse died Friday night at the hospital.
The driver of the Ford and three passengers in the Ford were also wearing seat belts and were not injured, State Police said.
State Police said driver impairment is not considered to be a factor in the crash. The crash closed a section of the highway for more than an hour.
