Ogden, UT : Motorcycle driver killed in crash with school bus on Wall Avenue in Ogden Thursday afternoon, November 3, 2016

A motorcycle driver was killed in a crash with a school bus Thursday afternoon in Ogden.

At 2:18 p.m., a 58-year-old man was driving north on Wall Avenue when a school bus made a left turn directly in front him near the intersection at 31st Street, according to a news release from Ogden City Police Department.

The man hit the bus and was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries, police say.

As of 3:30 p.m., his identity was not being released, pending notification of family.

The bus driver, a 30-year-old woman, was not injured in the crash, police say. There were no children on the bus, Ogden School District spokesman Jer Bates said. He said the school bus was with First Student, a bus contractor the district uses, and that the bus was headed to Odyssey Elementary School when the crash occurred.

An investigation into what happened is ongoing and the bus driver’s name is not being released, police said.

Chris Kemper, a spokesman for First Student, said the incident will be investigated in conjunction with local law enforcement. The company’s standard procedure is to place drivers on paid administrative leave after a crash.

“We’ll investigate the situation,” Kemper said. “Certainly it’s a very traumatic experience for our driver, so it’s not necessarily going to be for a set amount of time.”

As of 3:15 p.m., traffic was moving but slowly. Police tweeted that drivers should avoid the area if possible.
