A New Waverly woman was killed when her vehicle struck an 18 wheeler head-on in southwest Walker County on Friday afternoon.
The victim, who has not been identified pending notification of next of kin, died at the scene of the accident on FM 1374 between Cotton and Stubblefield Lake roads. A male passenger in the vehicle was transported to an undisclosed hospital.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the woman was driving a Toyota sedan east on FM 1374 when the car crossed over the center lane and collided with the 18 wheeler, which was heading west.
The driver of the 18 wheeler suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
"At this time we do not know what caused the Toyota to cross into the other lane," Sgt. Steven McNeil said. "It is still under investigation."
A trooper who responded to the accident was taken to Huntsville Memorial Hospital after he "passed out" at the scene because of dehydration, McNeil said. The trooper was treated and released Friday.
