Vancouver, WA : Pedestrian hit, killed by a car and semi-truck on I-5 in Vancouver on Monday night, March 14, 2016

A person is dead after they were struck and killed by a car and semi-truck on I-5 in Vancouver late Monday night.

Washington State Patrol responded to the scene on I-5 southbound at 78th Street just before midnight.

Investigators believe the person that was hit was the driver of a disabled vehicle that had stopped after striking the center jersey barrier.

Police said the driver stepped out of the disabled car and was hit and killed by a passing semi-truck and car.

Both drivers of the passing vehicles were unhurt and stayed at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators.

Police have not released any information on the victim.

Police closed I-5 for several hours while they investigated the situation. All lanes are now open.

The National Highway Safety Patrol and AAA have some advice for drivers on what to do immediately after a car crash.

They say drivers should stay in their cars and remain calm. They advise drivers to keep their seat belts on, turn on their hazard lights and try and pull over to safety.
