VILLAGE OF LUCK, WI : Wisconsin man dies in pickup crash while fleeing authorities on Sunday, January 1st 2017
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has asked for an independent investigation after a pickup driver was killed during a chase in western Wisconsin.
Authorities say the pursuit began early Friday in the Village of Luck when a Polk County sheriff’s deputy saw the pickup leave the road and then return to it. The deputy and a Luck police officer pursued the truck, which eventually crashed on a nearby state highway.
The driver, a 22-year-old man from Amery, was thrown from the pickup and died. Authorities say the driver was not wearing a seat belt. The Star Tribune reports two others in the vehicle were treated for non-critical injuries.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has asked the Wisconsin State Patrol and the St. Croix Sheriff’s Office to investigate.
