OKLAHOMA COUNTY, OK : Mom & Her 3 Kids Escape Fiery Turner Turnpike Crash on Sunday, 14th February 2021

Debris is still scattered on the westbound side of Turner Turnpike near Luther after a fiery accident Sunday afternoon.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said at least four semis and four passenger vehicles were involved. Because some of the cars were mangled and on fire, troopers are still piecing together the exact number of how many cars were involved.

Trooper Eric Foster said the accident was really three in one. On the way to the scene, OHP thought it could be fatal. Thankfully no one was killed, but at least four people were hurt.

Foster said the third crash was the one that actually shut down the turnpike in both directions because of the fire that it caused. Traffic was backed up for five hours and reopening the lanes was a big process.

"You have multiple problems with that," said Foster. "You have a fire that burns for a while, and so you have to think did it hurt the roadway. And then with all the water you have another separate issue..."

One family that was injured in the crash, the Cantrell kids and their mom Erin.

"Like we tell people those subsequent crashes are very dangerous," said Foster.
