Odessa, TX : Jason Acosta Valenzuela, 24, and passenger, Michael James Espinoza, 29, died when their car and a full-size pickup truck crashed on FM 2020 on Tuesday, April 12, 2016

Two Odessans were killed Monday night when their car and a full-size pickup truck crashed on FM 2020, the Texas Department of Public Safety reported Tuesday.

Jason Acosta Valenzuela, 24, and his passenger, Michael James Espinoza, 29, were pronounced dead by Odessa Fire/Rescue at the scene of the fatal wreck that was reported 8:48 p.m. Monday and occurred at FM 2020, about a mile west of Odessa, the DPS reported.

Valenzuela was driving a 2007 Chrysler 300 eastbound on FM 2020 at about the same time the second vehicle, a 2000 Ford F-150 pickup truck, was heading west on the road. Valenzuela was trying to make a left turn from the inside eastbound lane into a parking lot but failed to yield the right of way to the moving pickup truck, the DPS reported.

The Ford pickup ended up smashing into the right side of the Chrysler, DPS authorities said.

The driver of the pickup, Mark Anthony Sigala, an 18-year-old Odessa resident, was treated and released for minor injuries. Espinoza wore his seat belt during the crash but Valenzuela didn’t, the DPS said.
