San Juan County sheriff's deputies say 30-year-old Christopher Hower of Ely was photographing the competition when a four-wheel-drive vehicle went off a jump and hit him.
Investigators say he was in an unauthorized area of the track when the accident occurred Saturday afternoon in the Black Ridge area, about 15 miles south of Moab.
