Ligonier, PA : Ex-West Noble coach hurt in crash on on Friday, 16th August 2019
Longtime West Noble cross country and track coach Chuck Schlemmer was hit by a van and seriously injured while riding his bicycle on River Road near Ligonier on Friday afternoon.
According to the Noble County Sheriff's Office and a public Facebook post by his daughter Liz Schlemmer, the longtime teacher and coach was airlifted to Parkview Regional Medical Center and hospitalized with a brain injury, broken bones and a collapsed lung.
West Noble recognized Schlemmer, 58, for 24 years of service after he decided to retire from coaching after the 2016 cross country season.
In his 20 years as a Chargers head coach and four as an assistant, he led his teams to seven cross country sectional titles, 10 trips to the cross country state finals, 10 girls NECC cross country season championships, 13 girls NECC meet championships, three boys track NECC division championships, a boys track NECC meet championship and two girls track NECC division championships.
He is still listed as a social studies teacher at West Noble.
