Carlisle Township, OH : Elyria man dies in Carlisle Township crash early Monday morning on September 15, 2014
An Elyria man was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Monday morning.
Harold Brown, 31, was driving a 1999 Volvo southbound on West River Road, north of Russia Road, at 1:32 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a small curve, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The vehicle traveled off the west side of the road and struck a landscaping wall, tree and pole before overturning.
Brown was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lorain County Coroner’s Office, according to the release.
Elizabeth Stanic, 31, of Elyria, who was riding in the front passenger seat, was transported to University Hospitals – Elyria Medical Center by LifeCare. She was later transferred to MetroHealth Medical Center, according to the release. Stanic was in fair condition on Monday afternoon, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Brown was not wearing a seatbelt, and alcohol appears to be a factor, according to the release.
The highway patrol was assisted at the scene by the Carlisle Township Fire Department, LifeCare, Lorain County Coroner’s Office, Lorain County Sheriff’s Department, Lorain County Engineer’s Office and Vaughn’s Towing.
The crash remains under investigation.
