DEERFIELD, MA : Agawam resident Timothy Avery arrested in crash that injured 2 Deerfield on Saturday, 17th August 2019
An Agawam man accused of running down and injuring two local police officers is being held on $10,000 bail after being arrested for driving while under the influence of narcotics.
Timothy M. Avery, 27, was charged with operating under the influence of drugs causing serious bodily injury, operating a motor vehicle negligently to endanger and failure to move over for an emergency vehicle, said David Procopio, Massachusetts State Police spokesman.Avery was driving a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser when he struck officers Timothy Boland and Nick Limoges at about 2 a.m., Saturday, near the intersection of Route 10 and Childs Cross Road.
Boland and Limoges were struck while in the process of arresting a driver on several charges including drunken driving and operating a motor vehicle with a child in the vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor. The officers were outside the cruiser when Avery plowed into them and one of their vehicles, which had the blue lights flashing, police said.
Both officers received serious injuries and called for assistance after the crash. Massachusetts State Police and Whately Police responded, Procopio said.
