Authorities say a motorcyclist died after he lost control of his bike and crashed into a guide rail in New York.

The Journal News reports the crash happened around 1 p.m. Sunday on the Taconic Parkway in Putnam Valley.

State troopers say about six motorcycles were traveling at a high rate of speed when the lead biker failed to negotiate a turn and lost control of his bike. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities didn't immediately identify the victim.

Troopers say a second motorcyclist was hurt when he hit the rear of a car and was thrown from his bike. He was taken to a hospital with injuries that aren't life-threatening.
