Township of North Branch, PA : Charles Dusett, 62, charged with DUI, injured in North Branch crash on Route 28 on Wednesday morning, February 25, 2015

A Yardley, Penn. man was charged with driving under the influence after he was seriously injured in a single-car crash on Route 28 in North Branch in the early-morning hours on Wednesday, Branchburg police Lt. Bill Halderman said.

Charles Dusett, 62, was driving a gray 2011 Lexus Sedan west on Route 28 near Burnt Mill Road when he lost control of his vehicle, struck a pole and overturned after hitting a snowbank, Halderman said. He had to be extricated from his car, Halderman said.

He was then transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick with non-life threatening but serious injuries, Halderman said.

At 1:30 a.m., North Branch Firefighters and the Branchburg Police and EMS received a report of a single-vehicle crash on Route 22, North Branch Fire Chief David Hickson said.

Upon arrival, units discovered the vehicle on its side and the driver trapped inside with live wires hanging in the area, Hickson said.

After determining that the loose wires above the car were communication cables, rescue workers extricated the severely injured driver from the vehicle, Hickson said. He was immediately transported to the Robert Wood Johnson Trauma Unit in New Brunswick by the Branchburg Rescue Squad, Hickson said.

During the extrication, alcohol was detected in Ducett's car and on his person, Halderman said. Police obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and to take blood from Dusett, Halderman said. It was then that he was charged with DUI, Halderman said.
