Providence ,RI : Couple killed by wrong-way driver after He crashed head–on into the couple's car near Tobey Street on Sunday ,April 5th 2015
Family and friends of Bryan Rodriguez and Tiffany Sical are devastated this Easter. The couple was killed early Sunday morning by a wrong–way driver; police believe was intoxicated.
Sical and Rodriguez were planning to get married in September. They leave behind a 5-year-old daughter, named Jaylene.
"It's a six year old little girl- what is she gonna do without her family, without her parents? They were good parents," said Tiffany's cousin, Genesis Contreras.
Rhode Island State Police Cpl., David Bassignanti said, "Evidence suggests that he was downtown at several establishments. We're still attempting to get a timeline."
Around 1:30 am the suspect, 24 year old Joel Norman of Webster, Massachusetts entered Route 6 near Providence Place Mall. He crashed head–on into the couple's car near Tobey Street.
"It's at night; there wasn't a lot of traffic. It's dark so he got on the ramp and at 50 mph he was probably there within a matter of minutes."
The couple who lives in Central Falls was headed home from seeing the new "Fast and Furious" movie in Warwick. Bryan's best friend, Dasho Contreras was with them at the theater about 20 minutes before the crash.
Contreras said, "Obviously somebody I'm gonna miss a lot– like a brother and Tiffany as well. I have a lot of love for them. They were also my daughter's godparents."
This is the second fatal DUI/ wrong-way crash in Rhode Island within a month. The grieving family wants it to be the last.
"First of all it's very unfortunate that people still drive drunk and kill the parents of a 6-year-old, left a 6-year-old without her parents and I hope that he gets what he deserves," said Tiffany's Uncle, Luis Briseno.
State troopers said Norman refused a breath test but under a state warrant, his blood was drawn and results are pending.
