Denver, CO : Two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck driver on Colo. 128 on Wednesday, November, 15th 2017
The driver of a passenger vehicle died at the scene of a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck driver on Colo. 128 in Superior on Wednesday afternoon.
Boulder County Sheriff's Office Cmdr. Mike Wagner said that the crash happened at the 2.5 mile marker of Colo. 128 in between Colo. 93 and McCaslin Boulevard at about 3:30 p.m.
The Boulder County Coroner's Office will release the man's identity.
There were no immediate reports of injury regarding the semi-truck driver, but sheriff's office Cmdr. Nick Goldberger said that the driver was up and moving around and speaking to investigators. Goldberger did not have any information on whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
The crash briefly sparked a grass fire, and at least one of the involved vehicles also caught fire. A photograph released by the sheriff's office showed heavy fire damage on the front of the semi-truck.
The crash closed Colo. 128 between Colo. 93 and McCaslin Boulevard for several hours as sheriff's investigators looked into the cause of the crash, and Goldberger said that the road would likely remain closed until at least 10 p.m. as efforts were made to remove the semi-trailer from the road.
The Colorado State Patrol generally investigates traffic crashes in unincorporated Boulder County, but Superior contracts its polices services through the sheriff's office, so the agency took the investigation.
The state patrol, Rocky Mountain Fire District, North Metro Fire Rescue District, Louisville Fire Department, Colorado Department of Transportation, Boulder Emergency Squad, sheriff's office and coroner's office responded to the scene.
The fatality on Wednesday was the 23rd traffic fatality in Boulder County in 2017. In 2016, there were 24 traffic fatalities in Boulder County, 18 in 2015 and 14 in 2014.
