Edgard, LA : Woman killed, 1-year-old injured in a crash on U.S. 51 in St. John the Baptist Parish on Monday morning, Nov 9, 2015
A crash on U.S. 51 in St. John the Baptist Parish Monday morning (Nov. 9) killed a 39-year-old woman and injured three others, including a 1-year-old, Louisiana State Police said.
Joywanne Adams of Laplace was identified as the woman who died following the crash.
Adams was driving a 2011 Nissan Altima northbound on U.S. 51 near Palmetto Drive shortly before 10 a.m. when a 2004 GMC Envoy traveling southbound veered into her path for unknown reasons, police said. The Envoy was driven by Marlon Pierre Jr., a 24-year-old Luling resident.
Adams was taken to University Medical Center and later died from her injuries. Pierre Jr. had moderate injuries, police said. Two rear-seat passengers in Adams' car, a 1-year-old and 22-year-old Kyle Bolding, were also taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. The 1-year-old was in a child seat but it was not properly installed in the vehicle, police said.
Impairment is not suspected in the crash, though blood was taken from Pierre Jr. and police will do a routine toxicology analysis. Criminal charges are pending.
