Beckley, WV : A Fayette County man died in a two-vehicle accident in Powellton on Thursday, December, 21st 2017
A Fayette County man died Thursday evening in a two-vehicle accident in Powellton, Sheriff Mike Fridley reported.
Fridley said deputies arrived on scene to two vehicle accidents around 2:30 p.m., thinking it was two different accidents only to discover both accidents were actually the same extended crash scene.
Deputies found the accident involved a small passenger car and a coal truck. The car was traveling west on Armstrong Creek Road at which point it crossed the centerline, striking the oncoming coal truck.
After the initial impact, the coal truck struck the corners of two unoccupied structures and a parked pickup truck before coming to a stop.
Fridley said the driver of the car, Mark L. Munsley, 61, of Kimberly was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the coal truck was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center for treatment and was in stable condition.
Armstrong Creek Road was shut down for several hours while crews worked to investigate and secure the vehicles.
No one else was injured in the accident.
The incident remains under investigation by Capt. L.A. Crisp and Cpl. R.D. Stephens of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department.
