Oroville, CA : Man dies in head-on south Oroville crash on Tuesday, March 21, 2017

A Oroville man died Tuesday following a head-on crash in south Oroville, police said.

The Butte County Coroner’s Office Wednesday identified the man as Robert Ridge Jr., 58.

The crash happened about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday on Lower Wyandotte Road near Greenville Street, Oroville police said.

Ridge was traveling north on Lower Wyandotte in a Honda Accord and appeared to have drifted into oncoming southbound traffic, crashing head on into a Nissan Pathfinder driven by a 47-year-old Oroville woman, police said.

Ridge suffered fatal injuries in the wreck.

The woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to Oroville Hospital. She was later released.

Police said drug paraphernalia was found in Ridge’s Honda, but it was not yet known whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
