Two motorists were hospitalized with “very serious” injuries after a car crash at a Mishawaka intersection Sunday morning, police said.
The two-car crash at the intersection of McKinley Avenue and Main Street at about 6:45 a.m. Sunday left one of the drivers with life-threatening injuries.
Mary Fulks, 22, the driver of a gold Chevrolet Cavalier that ended up in the parking lot of Walgreens, was taken to Memorial Hospital in “critical condition,” according to a release issued by the St. Joseph County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT), the agency handling the investigation into the crash.
The 27-year-old driver of a Chevrolet Impala, whose name was not released, was transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center with “very serious” injuries, Mishawaka police said.
The crash occurred when the driver of the Impala allegedly “blew through a red light” and struck the Cavalier which was headed northbound on Main Street, police and FACT officials said.
Alcohol was not immediately suspected to be a factor in the crash, police said.
“This investigation remains active and ongoing,” a FACT spokesperson said in the release.
