A 54-year-old Tennessee man riding in the back seat of a Mercedes died Saturday night in a two-vehicle wreck on Acadian Thruway.
George Mabon, of Memphis, died at the hospital after the 9:30 p.m. crash, which occurred when the car Mabon was riding in turned from North Boulevard onto South Acadian Thruway, said Sgt. Don Coppola Jr., a Baton Rouge police spokesman.
Police suspect a 2001 Nissan Maxima, which was headed southbound on Acadian, ran a red light at the intersection and crashed into the Mercedes as it made the turn, Coppola said.
The driver of the Nissan, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital along with a second back seat passenger in the Mercedes.
The driver of the Mercedes, John Baur, 69, of 8312 Wesley Wood Circle, Cordova, Tennessee, was booked into Parish Prison on counts of first-offense DWI and reckless operation.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, Coppola said, and officers haven’t yet determined whether to make any additional arrests.
