Brown County, WI : Semi driver escapes with minor injuries in fiery crash in the Village of Howard on Monday, Oct 12, 2015

A semitractor trailer driver escaped with only minor injuries Monday when the big rig crashed and burst into flames in Brown County, the sheriff's office said.

The crash was reported shortly before 6 a.m. on southbound I-41 at Velp Ave. in the Village of Howard, according to a news release from the Brown County Sheriff's Office.

According to the release, the driver was hauling mail for the U.S. Postal Service and was southbound on I-41 approaching the Velp Ave. off ramp.

When he attempted to move to the right to avoid vehicles crowding the centerline, the right front tire of his vehicle struck the concrete barriers at the top of the off ramp, causing the semi to ride up the barriers and tip over.

The driver escaped with very minor injuries in the crash, which shut down the southbound lanes for about 45 minutes and the Velp Ave. off ramp for about seven hours, according to the release.

The crash remained under investigation, according to the release.
