Frankfort, KY : Empty tank leads to fatal accident on Kentucky 9 AA Highway between Kentucky 11 and Maple Leaf Road on Monday, 24th February, 2020

An empty gas tank proved to be fatal for a Tollesboro man Monday, police said.

According to information from the Maysville Police Department, Jimmy Polley, 45, of Tollesboro, ran out of gas on Kentucky 9 AA Highway between Kentucky 11 and Maple Leaf Road. Polley, who was headed northbound, pulled his vehicle onto the shoulder of the roadway, police said.

At about 6:44 a.m., Polley was in the process of putting gas into the vehicle’s fuel tank when he was struck by another vehicle driven by Jeffrey Kamer, 37, of Vanceburg, who was traveling northbound in the right-hand lane of the highway. Police said Kamer’s vehicle sideswiped Polley’s parked vehicle and Polley.

Polley was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Mason County Coroner David Lawrence.

Officers said Kamer has cooperated with police during the investigation and that use by neither drugs nor alcohol on Kamer’s part is suspected.

The highway was closed for several hours are accident reconstuctionists worked to determine the cause of the accident.
