Braithwaite, LA : New Orleans firefighter killed after motorcycle wreck on Highway 39 in Plaquemines Parish on Sunday afternoon, February 22, 2015

Authorities say a New Orleans firefighter died when he lost control of his motorcycle, hit a sign and then struck a culvert.

Trooper Melissa Matey says 25 year-old Corey Smith of New Orleans died from injuries suffered in Sunday afternoon's accident on Louisiana Highway 39 in Plaquemines Parish.

Matey said Smith was traveling at a high rate of speed when he was ejected. Smith was taken to Ochsner Medical Center Westbank where he was pronounced dead.

She says Smith was wearing a helmet.
