Cheyenne Wells, CO : One dead after accident south of Cheyenne Wells on Colorado 385 at approximately milepost 138 on Sunday, 15th December, 2019
The Colorado State Patrol investigated a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Highway 385 milepost 138, south of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado. The two vehicles that were involved in the crash were both Harley Davidson Motorcycles.
Both motorcycles were northbound on Colorado 385 at approximately milepost 138. Vehicle two was the lead motorcycle and was slowing to make a left turn onto County Rd C in Cheyenne County. Vehicle one failed to see that vehicle two had slowed down and the two motorcycles collided. Vehicle one then rolled ¼ time and came to rest on its left side ejecting both the driver and passenger. Vehicle two rolled ¼ time coming to rest on its right side.
The driver of vehicle one was James Petty a 49 year old from Lovington, N.M. Mr. Petty was flown by flight for life to Swedish Medical center in Denver where he later succumbed to his injuries and passed away at 1435hrs on 08-03-12. Mr. Petty was not wearing a safety helmet. The passenger on vehicle one was a 45 year old female from Lovington, N.M. She sustained a broken ankle in the accident and was transported to Cheyenne County medical center.
The driver of vehicle number two was a 53 year old male from Lovington, N.M. and he was uninjured in the accident. The passenger of vehicle two was a 52 year old female also form Lovington, N.M. and she sustained a broken ankle in the accident. She was also transported to Cheyenne County medical center.
Both of the motorcycles were driven from the scene.
