Weldona, CO : Three pedestrians injured in two related crashes Thursday night September 24 2015.
Three pedestrians were injured in two related crashes Thursday night in Gilcrest.
The first crash occurred about 7:45 p.m. on U.S. 85 near Weld County Road 31, said Cpl. Matt Turner, spokesman for the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.
Platteville police were still investigating the crash, but according to statements taken at the scene, one pedestrian was struck by a car while trying to cross the highway. The driver remained at the scene.
After the initial collision, two people stopped to help and also were hit by a passing motorist. It was unclear if the second two people were passengers in the first car, nearby pedestrians or from another vehicle unrelated to the initial crash.
One person was taken by helicopter to North Colorado Medical Center. The two others also were taken to NCMC by ambulance. The extent of their injuries, as well as other information about the crash, was not immediately available. Platteville PoliceChief Michael Root said Friday evening a report on the crash had not yet been filed.
Two lanes of U.S. 85, one in each direction, were closed for nearly two hours in the vicinity of the crash. Gilcrest police joined officers from Platteville and deputies from the sheriff’s office to divert traffic to Railroad Street while authorities investigated the scene.
