Jasper County,SC : Jasper County crash sends driver to trauma center on June, Thursday 15th 2017
Jasper County, South Carolina
A Thursday morning crash in Jasper County ended with one person being transported to a trauma center, according to Jasper County Fire Rescue.
The crash was near the junction of I-95 and U.S. 17 in the Point South area around 11:30 a.m., according to South Carolina Highway Patrol realtime traffic information.
Highway Patrol spokesman Cpl. Sonny Collins said Thursday afternoon that the one-vehicle crash was around mile marker 31 heading south. The driver lost control of his 2003 Jeep Liberty, which went over the median of the highway and “overturned several times,” he said. The driver was transported by ground to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah.
The driver was wearing a seatbelt, Collins said. The driver’s dog was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash but was unharmed. The dog was taken by a trooper to Jasper County Animal Shelter, where it will be held until the owner is able to collect it.
Initial Highway Patrol information available online indicated there had been an entrapment, but Fire Rescue spokesman Garrett Lucas said Thursday afternoon that no one had been trapped.
The crash is under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
