Victoria,TX : 1-vehicle wreck kills 42-year-old Victoria man on June, Wednesday 28th 2017

A Victoria man died after his vehicle hit a tree on U.S. 59 Wednesday night.

Larry Pena, 42, was headed north in a 2007 Ford Ranger at 5:50 p.m. on U.S. 59 about 3.6 miles south of Goliad, Sgt. Ruben San Miguel, Department of Public Safety spokesman said Thursday. For reasons still under investigation, Pena lost control of his vehicle and went into the southbound lanes before driving into a ditch and striking a tree on the passenger side door.

"He was killed as a result of the impact of the tree," San Miguel said.

Pena was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:22 p.m. by Steve Kennedy, Goliad County justice of the peace.

Pena was wearing his seatbelt, and troopers do not suspect drugs or alcohol played a factor in the wreck, San Miguel said.
