DECATUR, IL : Driver escape serious injury in Decatur rollover accident on Sunday, October, 22nd 2017

A driver was lucky to escape serious injury when his vehicle skidded and rolled onto its side Sunday afternoon in the 1800 block of East Lakeshore Drive in Decatur.

The driver scrambled free from the rear hatch of the sport utility vehicle with the assistance of police officers and Decatur Ambulance Service crews, according to Jeff Hott, a battalion chief with the Decatur Fire Department. Hott said the accident had happened in rainy conditions around 3:19 p.m after the driver apparently lost control on a curve and struck a guardrail.

That section of the road was partially shutdown for less than an hour while emergency crews worked the scene. Hott said he understands the driver was taken HSHS St. Mary's Hospital for treatment of injuries he described as “superficial.”
