AWENDAW, SC : Two people have died in a car accident on April, Thursday 20th 2017
Deputies have confirmed two people have died in a car accident on Highway 17 North near Chandler Road on Thursday afternoon.
Shortly after 4 pm, deputies with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office responded to investigate a two vehicle collision.
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office says the incident started when a Toyota Tundra made a swift lane change into the left hand lane to avoid hitting a slowing vehicle in front of it.
"When the Tundra shifted lanes, it sideswiped a Chevy pickup truck," CCSO officials said."The Toyota then slid off the right side of the roadway and into the grass where it hit a tree and turned on its side."
The driver of the Tundra, an adult male, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff's office.
"The three passengers, all adult males, were transported to the hospital," according to CCSO officials. "One of the passengers succumbed to his injuries."
A report states the driver was wearing his seatbelt and neither speed nor alcohol appears to have contributed to the collision.
The driver and passenger of the Chevy truck were not injured.
The collision is under investigation by the CCSO Selective Traffic Enforcement Unit and the Charleston County Coroner’s Office.
The coroner's office will determine the cause of death and the identification of the victims.
