Missoula, MT : Stevensville man dies after crash on Eastside Highway on Friday, July 15, 2016
Brandon J. Flatmo of Stevensville died at St. Patrick Hospital on Saturday, a day after his 1993 Nissan pickup truck drifted off the Eastside Highway in Ravalli County and crashed.
Ravalli County Highway Patrol Sergeant Scott Bennett said the pickup appears to have drifted off the road at about 2 a.m. on Friday. Bennett said there were no skid marks or other vehicles involved, and the 23-year-old was driving alone on a straight stretch of highway.
Bennett said it is unclear what happened after the truck slid off the road. Alcohol use is being investigated.
Responders found Flatmo lying on the ground a short distance from his truck. Bennett said law enforcement is unsure if Flatmo had been ejected from the vehicle or if he had crawled from the truck to the street after the crash.
The crash caused massive internal and head injuries to Flatmo, Bennett said, and he was taken off life support after more than a day in the hospital.
The crash is still under investigation and a full report has not yet been submitted.
Flatmo’s death is one of 93 car crash fatalities in Montana this year. This time last year there had been 96 vehicle-related deaths in the state.
