Columbia, S.C : One person killed, two others injured in head-on collision on I-77 Thursday, March 16, 2017

A car headed south on I-77 Thursday night crossed the median and collided head-on with a Chevy van headed north, near the Firest Drive exit.

The driver of the 2006 Crown Victoria was killed. A passenger in the car was taken to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital with life-threatening injuries, said South Carolina Highway Patrol Cpl David Jones. The driver of the Chevy van was also taken to the hospital with injuries, Jones said.
The accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. and closed the interstate in both directions for several hours.

An investigation into the accident continues.
