Cuero, TX : 2-vehicle wreck injures both drivers in Cuero on U.S. 87 in DeWitt County on Sunday, 3rd March 2019

A Cuero woman was taken by helicopter in stable condition to a San Antonio hospital after a two-vehicle wreck on U.S. 87 in DeWitt County on Sunday afternoon.

The woman drove a Ford pickup truck and pulled out from the median lane in front of an 18-wheeler headed south, which caused the two vehicles to crash about 4 p.m. near Old Victoria Road, about five miles southeast of Cuero, said DeWitt County Sheriff Carl Bowen.

“Initial findings suggest the wreck was intentionally caused,” he said. “The circumstances and details of the wreck are under investigation.”

The driver of the 18-wheeler was taken to DeTar Hospital Navarro in Victoria with injuries that were not life-threatening, Bowen said. The Cuero woman was taken by helicopter in stable condition to San Antonio Military Medical Center. The names and ages of the drivers were not available, and the city of residence of the man who drove the 18-wheeler was also not available on Sunday night.

The 18-wheeler came to rest on the railroad tracks and was still there as of 7 p.m. with railroad personnel on scene and a wrecker headed there to remove it. The 18-wheeler was carrying crude oil, which was successfully unloaded with no spillage, Bowen said.
