WATERTOWN, SD : Central Minnesota motorcyclist identified as victim in SD crash on Sunday, 20th May 2018
A 67-year-old Brooten motorcyclist from central Minnesota has been identified as the person who died in a motorcycle and pickup/trailer crash eight miles west of Watertown about 12:30 p.m..
Jimmy Westrud was driving a 2009 Harley Davidson RS 2009 westbound on U.S. Highway 212 when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The motorcycle crossed the centerline and into the path of an eastbound 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500K pickup pulling a trailer.
The motorcycle driver, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle. He later died as a result of his injuries.
Roy French, 51, of Watertown was driving the pickup. He was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
