HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA : Woman injured in bicycle vs pedestrian accident on Monday, January 2nd 2017

As the new year dawned the downtown witnessed its first accident by the historic Huntington Beach pier. At approximately 8:15 a.m. traffic along Pacific Coast Highway and Main Street stopped for the 4-way walk signal.A large group of speeding bike riders heading southbound on Pacific Coast Highway and several riders in the front of the pact went past the entrance. But as the signal turned red others in the group continued at a fast clip. During this time a woman attempted to cross Pacific Coast Highway legally and was struck by one of the riders, throwing her to the ground.
Several bystanders went to her aid with warning the other bicyclists to stop and also traffic in the accident lane. Others went to help the injured woman and the bike rider.
Local police, fire, and lifeguards rendered aid to the woman who was showing signs of shock as paramedics arrived to transport the woman to a local hospital. Police took reports from both injured parties and witnesses.
