Warrenton, VA : Victim identified in fatal I-95 hit-and-run crash on Sunday, August 27, 2017

State police today released the name of the victim of a fatal hit-and-run crash on Sunday in the northbound lanes of I-95 near Exit 152.

The driver of the Elantra, James Henry Taylor IV, 47, of Fredericksburg,died at the scene of the crash, police say.

Investigators are still asking for anyone with information on the suspect's dark colored sedan believed to have significant crash damage to call the Virginia State Police at 703-803-0026 or #77 on a cell phone.

Police are searching for the driver of a dark sedan who witnesses say swerved suddenly, causing a fatal crash and then fled the scene on Interstate 95 near Dumfries late Sunday night.

At 11:11 p.m. on Aug. 27, Virginia State Police responded to a two-vehicle traffic crash in the northbound lanes of I-95 near Exit 152.

According to witnesses, a four-door, dark sedan was in the northbound I-95 exit lane for Exit 152A, when it suddenly swerved out of the lane and crossed multiple northbound lanes before striking a tan 2006 Hyundai Elantra, also traveling north on I-95.

Police say the impact of the crash caused both vehicles to run off the left side of the interstate and the Hyundai hit the guardrail. The two vehicles collided a second time, causing the Hyundai to hit the guardrail again, this time head-on.

The dark sedan fled the scene, law-enforcement officials say. Police are searching for the sedan and say it should have significant damage to the rear driver’s side and possibly a broken tail light. There should also be damage to front bumper on the driver’s side.

Witnesses could not recall the sedan's license plate number or its color, police say.

The adult male driver of the Elantra died at the scene. His name has not yet been released to the public.

The state police Fairfax Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
