An estimated half dozen people have been taken to the hospital following a six-vehicle accident on Interstate 71 Wednesday afternoon, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.Officials said Tracy Martin, 44, was driving on the shoulder of the highway and sideswiped three cars with his truck around 6 p.m.. He then rear-ended a silver Mercedes, causing it to spin out of control. At least five other people were taken to area hospitals as well. When Martin's truck came to a stop, witnesses said he fled down I-71 on foot naked. Authorities tackled, Tased and took him into custody. He was taken to Bethesda North Hospital after he was subdued. It's unclear whether Martin was ejected from his truck or managed to exit the vehicle after it overturned on the jeep. A warrant has been issued for his arrest on the charges of aggravated vehicular assault and vehicular assault. The whole scene was witnessed by a Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper, who saw Martin pass just before his truck began to strike a vehicle where the shoulder of I-71 narrows as the highway passes under the Interstate 275 overpass.Officials report that several off-duty nurses traveling past the accident stopped to lend assistance. The wreckage from the incident littered the highway for more than quarter mile. Southbound lanes were shut down just north of the 275 junction for more than an hour as authorities investigated the scene. Lanes began to open just after 7 p.m., but the left lane remained closed into the night.
