Lee County, FL : One Fort Myers man is dead after a traffic crash on US-41 at Hickory Drive in Lee County on Tuesday, December 30, 2014
A Fort Myers man died Tuesday at the scene of a crash along US-41 at Hickory Drive in Lee County, which closed southbound traffic at the intersection for two hours.
Daniel Cantwell, 59, did not survive the crash that involved three vehicles - and his next of kin were notified. His 57-year-old passenger was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital and was listed in fair condition Tuesday night.
An 18-year-old driver and a 7-year-old passenger received minor injuries in a second vehicle. The driver in the third vehicle was uninjured, according to FHP.
No charges are issued in the crash that unfolded around 5:15 pm.
According to the report, Cantwell's vehicle was stopped westbound on Hickory Drive waiting to turn left onto US-41. He pulled out in front of the second vehicle, which struck Cantwell's door.
Cantwell was trapped in his vehicle and was removed by the San Carlos Fire Department, according to FHP.
His vehicle overturned and came to rest with the third vehicle.
Traffic was closed southbound for two hours during the investigation - and was limited in both directions on US-41 for about three hours.
