A Largo man died in a single-car crash on the Howard Frankland Bridge about 11:28 a.m. Wednesday, July 9.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, Philip Gary De Wilde, 41, was traveling southbound on I-275 crossing the Howard Frankland Bridge in the right center lane just before the crash.
The crash investigator thinks De Wilde may have suffered a medical emergency causing him to lose control of his 2013 Ford Focus. The vehicle veered northwest leaving the right center traffic lane, crossing into the right traffic lane. The car continued traveling northwest until it collided with the concrete barrier wall.
After hitting the wall, the car rotated counter-clockwise and continued traveling southwest, crossing all four southbound lanes of traffic before colliding with the median concrete barrier wall.
