Mckenny, VA : Three people injured after a tractor-trailer hit a sheriff's car and fire truck on Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie County early Sunday morning, Nov 22, 2015

A tractor-trailer driver from North Carolina is facing charges after a chain-reaction accident involving a firetruck and sheriff’s car on Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie County.
Lonnie Mixter of High Point, N.C., was charged with reckless driving in the crash, which occurred about 1:30 a.m. Sunday when Mixter’s truck slammed into a firetruck that had responded to an earlier accident near the McKenney Highway exit on northbound I-85, said Sgt. Stephan M. Vick of the Virginia State Police.
Mixter did not slow down as he approached the scene, where the right lane was blocked, Vick said. Mixter’s tractor-trailer hit the firetruck, causing it to strike the Dinwiddie County Sheriff’s office vehicle.
Mixter’s semi then took out 204 feet of guardrail before overturning, Vick said.
Mixter was flown to VCU Medical Center with serious injuries after the crash.
A sheriff’s deputy and firefighter also were taken to the hospital. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
