"I have never seen something like this before," Superintendent Judd Marshall told KXAS. "It's so sad and devastating."
The boys' team bus toppled over in the initial crash on U.S. 271 before the big rig struck a car driven by an assistant girls' team coach, later identified as 30-year-old Angelica Beard.
The girls' team bus escaped the crash. The truck driver was identified as a 50-year-old man from Missouri.
Paramedics rushed 18 students and 3 other adults to nearby hospitals, Fox 4 added. At least one member of the boys' team reportedly was airlifted.
