Wood County , OH :US-6 reopens after fatal crash involving school bus on Monday morning,July 13th 2015
One person is dead and several others have minor injuries after a crash involving a school bus Monday morning in Wood County.
The crash happened around 7:50 a.m. on US-6 at Silverwood Road near New Rochester in Wood County.
Ohio State Highway Patrol said a Blue Bird School Bus, a freightliner and a Kenworth commercial truck were heading east on US-6 when the crash happened. The school bus was stopped to make a left turn onto Silverwood Road, with the truck behind it, when the freightliner hit the truck its left side.
That impact caused the freightliner to cross the center line and hit a Honda Odyssey van heading west on US-6. After hitting the van, the freightliner jackknifed and struck the school bus in the rear right corner.
The driver of the van, Steven Plottner, 57, of Marblehead, Ohio was killed. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
The driver of the Kenworth truck, Douglas Greenwood, 50, of Tyler, Texas was taken to Wood County Hospital for minor injuries.
There were no children on the school bus when the crash happened. The driver and three adult passengers were not injured.
