Athens, AL : 5-year-old killed and two adults injured in a two-vehicle crash on Huntsville Brownsferry Road on Thursday night, April 21, 2016

A 5-year-old was killed and two adults were injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday night on Huntsville Brownsferry Road, authorities said.

Eli Beck, of Madison, died when the 2016 Honda, in which he was a passenger, collided with another vehicle shortly after 7 p.m. about half a mile east of Athens, according to state troopers.
Beck was not in a child restraint, trooper reports show.

The driver of the Honda, Christina Beck, 39, of Madison, was injured, troopers said.
Coroner Mike West pronounced the 5-year-old dead on the scene.
Also injured was Joseph Beggs, 49, of Somerville, who was driving a 2012 Ford van, trooper reports show.

Reports indicate both drivers were wearing seat belts, but their conditions were not available this morning.

West said a family traveling behind the van pulled the 5-year-old and the driver, who was his mother, out of the Honda following the crash because the front of the vehicle was smoking.
Troopers said the wreck remains under investigation.
