Temple, TX : Three children injured in Temple crash on Friday night, December 29, 2016
Three children remain in severe condition at McLane Children’s Scott & White Medical Center after they were flown to Temple Friday night after a Milano fatality accident.
The driver of the vehicle in which the children were passengers was pronounced dead at the accident scene.
Beverly Gunnels, 51, of Milano, had three children, a 5-year-old and two 4-year-olds, in a 2014 GMC pickup at about 6:15 p.m. when the GMC drifted into the westbound lane on U.S. 79 and hit a Toyota head on, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Dave Roberts said.
The GMC pickup was going eastbound on U.S. 79, while a 2005 Toyota pickup driven by Laura Durham, 25, of College Station, was headed westbound. A 2011 Ford Fusion sedan driven by Chelsie Tomlinson, 21, of College Station, was behind the Toyota, and a 2012 Chevrolet pickup driven by Brian Tomlinson, 23, Chelsie Tomlinson’s husband, was behind the Fusion, Roberts said.
When the GMC went into the wrong lane, it hit the Toyota driven by Durham. Tomlinson, driving the Fusion, braked hard to try to keep from hitting the Toyota, and the Chevrolet pickup, which Brian Tomlinson drove, wasn’t able to slow down in time and hit the back of the Fusion, causing it to strike the back of the Toyota.
Gunnels was pronounced dead at the scene by Milam County Justice of the Peace Rick Gommert.
Durham was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Hospital in Bryan, also with severe injuries. The Tomlinsons were not injured.
