Aberdeen,WA : Hoquiam man dead in single car crash early morning on May,Thursday 31st 2018
An early morning single car crash Thursday at the intersection of Bay Avenue and 22nd Street in Hoquiam left the driver dead, according to a statement released by Sgt. Jeff Salstrom with the Hoquiam Police Department.
The victim was identified as Jody Lapinski, 45, of Hoquiam, according to a statement released by Grays Harbor County Coroner Lane Youmans early Thursday afternoon. His family has been notified and an autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.
The accident was reported shortly before 2 a.m. Responding officers found a 2004 Chevrolet Impala that had been traveling westbound on Bay Avenue and failed to negotiate the turn onto 22nd Street. According to Salstrom’s statement, the Impala continued through a chain link fence and struck an industrial pipeline, trapping the driver. Hoquiam Fire Department personnel arrived and determined the driver, the only occupant in the vehicle, was deceased.
The pipeline is no longer in use and did not contain any hazardous materials, said Salstrom. The Hoquiam collision investigation team was still on the scene after 6 a.m., using a laser mapping tool to help determine the circumstances of the accident. A final assessment of the cause will not be available until toxicology tests are processed, said Salstrom.
